Ring Size Guide: US, UK & Australian Ring Sizes

To find your ring size, measure the inside diameter of a ring that already fits you, or wrap a strip of paper around the base of your finger and measure its length in millimeters, then match the number to the chart below. MAVÉ makes every ring to order in US, UK and Australian sizes, and the UK and Australia share the same letter scale. If you are not sure, send us your measurement and we confirm your size before production.

Inside circumference follows ISO 8653, the international standard that defines ring size by the inside circumference in millimeters. Inside diameter is the circumference divided by π (pi). UK and Australian sizes use the same letter scale, and each half US size is about one letter on that scale. If your size is not in the chart, message us before you order.

How to measure your ring size at home

Method 1: Measure a ring that already fits

  1. Choose a ring that fits the finger you are sizing. Rings often fit differently on each hand.
  2. Lay the ring flat on a ruler and measure straight across the inside, from inner edge to inner edge, in millimeters.
  3. Find the nearest inside diameter in the chart above. That row is your size.

Method 2: Use a strip of paper or string

  1. Cut a thin strip of paper, about 5 mm wide, or use a piece of string that does not stretch.
  2. Wrap it around the base of your finger. It should feel snug but still slide over your knuckle.
  3. Mark the point where the end overlaps with a pen.
  4. Lay it flat and measure from the end to the mark in millimeters. This is your inside circumference.
  5. Find the nearest inside circumference in the chart above. If you fall between two sizes, choose the larger one.

Tips for an accurate ring size

  • Measure at the end of the day. Fingers are usually at their largest in the evening.
  • Make sure your hands are warm. Cold fingers shrink, so a ring sized on a cold day can feel tight later.
  • Size up for wide bands. A wide band sits tighter than a thin one, so go up about half a size.
  • Check your knuckle. If your knuckle is larger than the base of your finger, measure both and choose a size that slides over the knuckle.
  • Measure more than once. Two or three measurements give you a more reliable result.

Ring size FAQs

Is UK ring size the same as Australian?

Yes. The UK and Australia use the same letter scale for ring sizes, so a UK L½ is the same as an Australian L½. MAVÉ lists them together as UK/AU sizes.

How do I convert US to UK ring size?

Find your US size in the chart and read across to the UK & AU column. At MAVÉ, US 6 is UK/AU L½, US 7 is UK/AU N½ and US 8 is UK/AU P½, and each half US size is about one letter on the UK/AU scale.

What if I'm between sizes?

Choose the larger size, especially for a wide band. You can also send us both measurements, and we confirm the best size with you before production.

How do I find my ring size without a ring sizer?

Wrap a thin strip of paper or string around the base of your finger, mark where it overlaps, and measure the length in millimeters. That is your inside circumference. Match it to the nearest size in the chart.

Can MAVÉ resize my ring later?

Yes, MAVÉ resizes rings for a low fee of $20, and the customer covers shipping both ways. If a design has details that affect resizing, we confirm this with you before production.
