Oecler does not include a certificate by default. On request, finished jewelry gets an NGTC report (about 3 days, free), loose lab-grown diamonds get an IGI report (about 20 extra days on top of normal production time, $50), and loose lab-grown colored gemstones get an AGL report (about 3 days, free). This guide explains what each report covers at Oecler, how much time and money it adds, and how to decide whether you need one.
The short answer
| What you buy from Oecler | Report available on request | Extra time | Cost | Included by default? |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Finished jewelry (rings, earrings, necklaces) | NGTC | About 3 days | Free | No |
| Loose lab-grown diamond | IGI | About 20 days, on top of normal production time | $50 | No |
| Loose lab-grown colored gemstone | AGL | About 3 days | Free | No |
At Oecler, a report is something you ask for, not something that comes automatically. If you don’t need one, your order isn’t held up. If you do, you know the added time and cost before you order.
"Certificate" or "grading report"?
Shoppers usually say “certificate,” but IGI points out that what is commonly called a certificate is actually a grading report (IGI). A report records a lab’s opinion of a specific stone or piece at the time it was examined (IGI). IGI’s lab-grown diamond report documents the stone’s laboratory-grown origin, its color, clarity, cut and carat weight, and its measurements. On request, IGI also notes the growth method and any treatments in the report’s comments section (IGI).
A report does not make a stone better or worse. It is independent documentation of what the stone is.
Why a lab report is useful for lab-grown diamonds
A lab-grown diamond can’t be told apart from a natural diamond by eye. GIA explains that HPHT and CVD lab-grown diamonds are virtually identical to natural diamonds, and that the differences only become clear when a trained grader examines them in a gem laboratory (GIA 4Cs). GIA also notes that most lab-grown diamonds are made by one of these two methods, and that many CVD diamonds are treated after growth to improve their color (GIA). A lab report puts the stone’s identity and characteristics on paper, so you don’t have to rely only on the seller’s description.
IGI reports for loose lab-grown diamonds
For loose lab-grown diamonds, Oecler arranges an IGI report on request. In practice:
- Cost: $50 per stone.
- Time: about 20 extra days, on top of normal production time.
- Verification: IGI reports can be checked online by report number on IGI’s Verify Your Report page.
Oecler ships in-stock loose stones within 3 days, so an IGI report is the biggest single addition to a loose-diamond timeline. Ask for it when you order.
NGTC reports for finished jewelry
For finished jewelry, Oecler arranges an NGTC report on request. It takes about 3 days and costs nothing extra. Made-to-order Oecler pieces take 3–5 weeks, so those 3 days add little to the overall timeline.
AGL reports for loose lab-grown colored gemstones
For loose lab-grown colored gemstones, such as a lab-grown sapphire, Oecler arranges an AGL report on request. It takes about 3 days and costs nothing extra.
Under the U.S. FTC Jewelry Guides, a laboratory-created gemstone has to be described with a term such as “laboratory-grown” right before the gem name, for example “lab-grown sapphire,” so buyers know the stone is not mined (FTC). Oecler describes all of its colored gemstones as lab-grown.
How a report changes your timeline (approximate)
| Order | Without a report | With a report |
|---|---|---|
| In-stock loose lab-grown diamond | Ships within 3 days | About 3 days + about 20 days (IGI) |
| Out-of-stock loose lab-grown diamond, cut to order | Ships in about 2 weeks | About 2 weeks + about 20 days (IGI) |
| Loose lab-grown colored gemstone | Per stock status | Plus about 3 days (AGL) |
| Made-to-order jewelry | 3–5 weeks, then 7–10 days in transit | Plus about 3 days (NGTC) |
Oecler ships all jewelry free with DDP to the US, UK and Australia.
Do you need a report?
A report is worth requesting if you:
- want independent documentation of a loose stone’s characteristics,
- plan to insure the piece and your insurer asks for documentation, or
- want to check that the stone you receive matches what was described.
Skipping the report can make sense when timing matters more, for example if you’re ordering an in-stock loose lab-grown diamond close to a date.
Either way, decide before you order. At Oecler, loose stones and custom pieces are final sale.
What to check when your report arrives
When your Oecler order arrives with a report, take five minutes to check it:
- Report number: for IGI, enter it on IGI’s Verify Your Report page and confirm that the online record matches the paper report.
- Origin: the report should identify the diamond as laboratory-grown.
- Measurements and weight: compare the measurements and carat weight with the stone’s listing and your order confirmation.
- Shape and cutting style: check that the “Shape and Cutting Style” line on the report matches what you ordered. For example, IGI laboratory-grown diamond reports have described an old European cut as “Old European Cut” and a kite shape as “Kite Step Cut”, but the exact wording depends on how the stone is faceted, so ask Oecler if a term is unclear.
- Keep it safe: store a digital copy with your order email. Your insurer or a future appraiser may ask to see it.
If anything doesn’t match, contact Oecler at [email protected] before you wear or set the stone.
How to request a report from Oecler
- Choose your stone or piece on oecler.com.
- Before or when you order, email [email protected] or message Oecler on WhatsApp at +8615902127864 and say which report you want.
- Oecler will confirm the added time and, for IGI, the $50 fee.
